A Shoulder or an Ear...

Life is hard.

Life is cruel.

Our own mortality is scary.

We deal with our own ups and downs most of which aren't that important, but we perceive them to be. But we can fight our own battles, no matter what they are, we can fight. We often feel that we have some control over our own battles.

But when a loved one has to fight a battle and all you can do is be there or say kind words or try to be supportive, you feel helpless. I know I do.

You hope that you find the right words to say to comfort someone who has had bad news, but everyone is trying to say nice things. And guess what, we often do not know what that person is going through.

Just let them know you are there for them and then mean it.

If they call, if they need you be there...and if they ask for you to pray for them or not, do it any way.

Just be genuine, authentic, caring, and let them know you are clueless in helping....they probably just need a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen.

Prayers for everyone dealing with something, especially my friend Cheryl Nehrt, the Athletic Director at Crothersville High School, who recently found out about a new fight she will be fighting.
